Boost SEO on Squarespace by Embedding Tutorials with Loom, Youtube and Ahrefs

Here’s a quick video showing you exactly how I’m using AHREFs and Youtube to boost my SEO on this Squarespace website. A detailed written step-by-step guide is below if you prefer to read this. Check it out and let me know what questions you have in the comments below!

The Tools: Ahrefs, Loom, Youtube & Squarespace

Objective: Embed a YouTube video into a Squarespace blog post to optimize for SEO and increase organic traffic.

Step by Step Guide:

  1. Find a relevant question or topic related to Squarespace that has low keyword difficulty.

    • Example: "How to find out what version of Squarespace I have"

  2. Create a short video using Loom answering the question or providing information related to the topic.

    • Keep the video under 5 minutes if possible. It should just be about answering the question directly.

  3. Upload the video to YouTube.

  4. Generate thumbnails for the video.

    • Note: If you don't like the generated thumbnails, you can change them later.

  5. Create a custom thumbnail for the video in Canva.

    • Use a JPEG format to reduce file size.

  6. Download the custom thumbnail as a JPEG or PNG less than 500KB in file size.

  7. Change the name of the downloaded thumbnail to include the topic or question—this helps with SEO.

  8. Go back to YouTube and upload the custom thumbnail.

  9. Create a playlist for the video (if applicable).

  10. Set the video to "Public" and hit "Publish".

  11. Copy the video link.

  12. Go to the Squarespace blog post where you want to embed the video.

  13. Add a "Video" block in the blog post editor.

  14. Use the YouTube video link to embed the video. Note: You can upload videos directly to Squarespace but it will count against your limit and the whole point is to take advantage of double the SEO anyway so linking to Youtube is a great way to go.

  15. Save and publish the blog post.

  16. Add a featured image to the blog post. Use the custom thumbnail image created earlier and you can change the featured image later if needed.

  17. Check the settings and make sure the title, URL slug, and description are properly set up.

  • The title and URL slug should match.

  • The description can be customized in the SEO tab if desired.

  • Check the SEO settings and make sure the title, URL slug, and description are properly set up.

Cautionary Notes:

  • Make sure the video is relevant to the topic or question.

  • Keep the video short and concise.

  • Check for any copyright issues before publishing the video.

  • Double-check that the video is set to "Public" before embedding it.

  • Ensure that the featured image is visually appealing and relevant to the blog post.

Tips for Efficiency:

  • Plan and create multiple videos in advance to save time.

  • Use a consistent format for creating custom thumbnails.

  • Utilize playlists on YouTube to organize your videos.

  • Customize the description and other SEO settings to optimize for search rankings.
